White Horse provides your buildings insurance as part of your tenancy, or service charge if you are a shared owner, but you need to make your own arrangements for protecting the valuable and sentimental items in your home, which is why having home contents insurance is essential.
The My Home Contents Insurance scheme offers comprehensive coverage for various household contents, including furniture, carpets, curtains, clothes, bedding, electrical items, jewellery, pictures, and ornaments. It protects against common perils such as fire, theft, water damage, storms, and floods. ?
A significant aspect of home contents insurance is accidental damage coverage. ?According to MPL Claims Data, 83 per cent of claims are for accidents occurring in the home, such as knocking over TVs, dropping laptops, and breaking mobile phones.
My Home Contents will pay up to £500 for loss of or damage to food in a fridge/freezer but it does not cover damage caused if the electricity supplier deliberately cuts of the supply to your home.
It covers theft or attempted theft of contents in sheds, outbuildings and garages that form part of your home (up to £3,000).
It will pay up to £500 for replacement and installation of locks for outside doors or windows and alarms, if keys are lost or stolen.
It will pay up to 35 per cent of the contents sum insured for damage to your landlord's fixtures and fittings which you are legally liable for as a tenant. There is no cover available if your home is unoccupied for more than 60 days in a row.
The My Home Contents Insurance scheme provides standard cover for accidental breakage of mirrors, fixed glass in furniture, cooking hobs, and oven doors. ?Additionally, it covers accidental damage to televisions, home computers, home entertainment equipment, and CCTV equipment attached to your home. ?
However, it excludes damage to portable items like mobile phones, tablets and laptops unless you opt for extended accidental damage cover for an additional premium. ?
The extended accidental damage cover includes incidents such as spilt paint on the carpet, dropped phones or laptops, and accidental damage to sofas or other furniture.
The cover also excludes contents not inside your home, damage caused by wear and tear, and electronic, electrical, or mechanical breakdown and failure. ?A £50 excess may apply to accidental damage claims. ? Optional extensions, such as extended accidental damage cover, personal possessions (away from the home), wheelchair and hearing aid cover are available for an additional premium.
The My Home scheme is designed for residents living in social housing and offers flexible payment options. ?Premiums can be paid fortnightly or monthly in cash using a swipe card, monthly by direct debit, or annually by credit or debit card. ? Fortnightly and monthly premiums include a transaction charge. ?
